Operation Paperclip: America Hired 1,600 Nazi Scientists After World War II
Did the U.S. get to the Moon by hiring actual Nazis? Yeah. Yeah it did. July 1969. Apollo 11 sticks the landing, Saturn V is roaring like a god having a tantrum, and the whole world's losing its mind over "one giant leap for mankind." Cute. Real cute. Nobody's mentioning the part where America's rocket program was basically staffed by dudes who, a few years earlier, were building weapons for the actual Third Reich. That's Operation Paperclip, and it's exactly as gross as it sounds. The U.S. rounds up over 1,600 German scientists, engineers, and Wernher von Braun himself, the guy literally in charge of designing the V-2 rocket, and instead of a war crimes tribunal, they get a moving truck to Alabama. Forced labor camps built those rockets, by the way. People died making the tech these guys got to walk away from with a paycheck and a fresh biography. So Uncle Sam grabs the whiteout, edits the backstory, slaps a "brilliant scientist, definitely not a Nazi" sticker on the whole operation, and rides it straight to the Moon. This video's about how that sleight of hand actually worked, about how the U.S. laundered these guys' reputations in real time, and whether beating the Soviets was worth making that deal with the devil, or if we just quietly decided some moral lines don't apply if the rocket's cool enough. --- ⚠️ ATTRIBUTION: Vecteezy.com ⚠️ DISCLAIMER: This video is created for educational and historical commentary purposes.
