Defense blasts state for criminalising consensual love between two adults in Dr Obwaka’s case

Lawyer Levi Munyeri told the court that the suspect acted swiftly after Dr. Obwaka collapsed at her home, immediately alerting a neighbour who called an ambulance and contacting the doctor’s personal physician. He emphasized that her response was focused on saving the doctor’s life. Munyeri also addressed claims about their relationship, stating that the suspect had already disclosed in her statement that she and the deceased were close friends and had been intimate. He argued that intimacy is not a criminal offence and should not be used to imply wrongdoing. “Your Honour, you cannot blame the bee for the sweetness of the honey. No wrongdoing can be inferred from the fact that the deceased visited the respondent and they became intimate,” Munyeri told the court.
