It was the first cargo-passenger ferry of the "Dmitry Shostakovich" series built in Poland for Soviet operators. The "godmother" of the ship was the seamstress of the Clementi garment factory - Elvi Koolmeister. The ship, named after the Estonian opera singer, the golden voice of Georg Ots, was one of the first ships to sail under the control of Tallink. A four-deck ferry with a displacement of more than 10,000 tons with a length of 134 m and a width of 21 m, developed a speed of 18.9 in one section. The crew of 200 people served up to 600 passengers (101 cabins). For VIP-passengers there were both apartments and cabins of the "Junior" class. In addition, the Georg UTS ferry could carry up to 150 vehicles. From 1980 to 2000, the ferry served the Tallinn - Helsinki route. In 1994, the vessel was chartered by Tallink (45% of which at that time belonged to ESCO), while continuing to serve the Tallinn-Helsinki route. In 1986, Mikhail Gorbachev went to Reykjavik on this ship, where he met with Ronald Reagan. In 2002, the ferry was purchased by Russia, and until 2010 it operated on the Kaliningrad - St. Petersburg route. Travel time was from 36 to 47 hours, depending on the season. On August 28, 2010 the ferry left St. Petersburg in the direction of Murmansk. Leaving Murmansk on September 10 in the direction of the city of Anadyr, where he arrived on September 26, having passed the entire Northern Sea Route in 15 days, becoming the first non-icebreaker passenger ship to overcome the Northern Sea Route with icebreaker support under the leadership of Captain Igor Enkov. Leaving Anadyr on September 30, the vessel "Georg Ots" arrived on October 9, 2010 in Vladivostok, where it was supposed to be used to accommodate the guests of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit. 200 million rubles were allocated from the regional budget to modernize the vessel for a hotel. Since 2010, it has been operated and modernized in the Russian Far East. In August 2011, Vladivostok became the new home port. On April 28, 2012, an accident occurred at the shipyard, as a result of which a half-meter hole appeared in the ship's hull and the blades of all propellers were damaged, however, the ship was successfully prepared to receive guests as part of the Asia -Pacific Economic Cooperation. The vessel belonged to the Regional State Unitary Enterprise "Gosnedvizhimost", in December 2012, it was leased to Technomorin LLC, which, in turn, in January 2013 entered into a "subberboat" (bareboat charter) agreement with a Chinese company, after why the ship went to the PRC. In June 2014, the interim governor of Primorsky Krai, Vladimir Miklushevsky, announced that the ship had been scrapped in China as a result of fraud. Georg Ots was last seen at the Asia Pacific Dockyard in Zhoushan, China.
