After our preparations, we leave for the ocean crossing from Saint Martin to Terceira in the Azores. The winds are favorable during the first few days, but then disaster strikes. On the fourth day, the autopilot stalls. Fortunately we have the wind vane as a backup and we can continue our trip. Moreover, we already have spare parts on board and when the wind calms down a bit we set to work to repair the drive. For years I have dreamed of sailing wherever the wind takes me. In 2020, the time had finally come and Felia and I made a wonderful trip to Scandinavia and the Baltic States. Our Eva, a 2007 Atlantic 43, is an aluminum sailing yacht with lifting keel and built and equipped for trips to places just beyond the horizon.
