Chicago's Strangest Sight | The Abandoned Ship Nobody Can Explain!

On the far southern edge of Chicago, a massive ship sits in still water, unmoving, unwanted, and largely forgotten. This is the CTC No. 1, often called Chicago’s ghost ship. The 620-foot vessel is docked up on the Calumet River right next to a large grain elevator that is also abandoned. Both are clearly visible by anyone driving north on the Bishop Ford Expressway. For more than three decades, it has remained in the same place, silently decaying in an industrial corner of the city that few people ever visit. And yet, it has never truly been abandoned in the way people expect. It still has an owner. It still technically exists within the system. And that raises a question that feels almost too simple for something this massive: How does a ship this big just get forgotten?
