The movement of the pelvis could easily be defined as the MOST IMPORTANT MOVEMENT IN GOLF. Get it right, and you’re on your way to years of solid ball striking. Get it wrong, however, and a lifetime of golfing misery will follow! The lateral movement of the pelvis during the downswing and follow-through has been poorly defined in much of the golf instruction world. The term "hip sway" has become a taboo subject for a lot of golf instructors in recent years, with everyone, instead, trying to get OPEN with their lower body. However, this has led to major issues for the majority of golfers, who now find themselves swinging excessive across the ball and unable to control the low-point of their swing. So should you sway your hips towards the target in the downswing? The answer is YES! How much? Well the PGA Tour average would see the centre of the pelvis move some 6-8 inches towards the target from the top of the backswing, to the finish of the swing with IRONS and DRIVER. The majority of you watching this video already know you should be doing this, but 99% of you are not moving your pelvis towards the target FAR ENOUGH or EARLY ENOUGH to take advantage of all the benefits that come from doing so.
