Maxie Dorf Dances Balboa with Sylvia Sykes - Summer 2000
Maxie is often considered one of the fathers of Balboa and one of the people who helped teach Balboa to dancers in the 1990's. Ron Thompson took this video at a dance camp in the summer of 2000. As mentioned in the video, he had been in the hospital the week before. He gets up out of his wheelchair to dance with Sylvia. He spent much of the weekend hanging out, talking to dancers, and watching. When talking to Ron, it was clear that loved that so many people were doing the dance that he had done in the 1930's and 40's. Ron's memory from 25 years ago is that that Maxie told him that he encouraged people to dance Balboa at all tempos and said that he did not consider Balboa to be a fast dance.
