Amikacin is aminoglycoside antibiotics class of medication. It is used by injection into a vein using an IV or into a muscle, IM. Amikacin was patented in 1971, and came into commercial use in 1976. It is a semisynthetic derivative of kanamycin to which it resembles in pharmacokinetics, dose and toxicity. The aminoglycosides are a group of antibiotics of complex chemical structure, resembling each other in antimicrobial activity, Bactericidal antibiotics because they kill bacteria directly AMIKACIN MECHANISM OF ACTION Amikacin is a medicinal and bacteriologic category of traditional Gram-negative antibacterial medications that inhibit protein synthesis and contain as a portion of the molecule an amino-modified glycoside. Inhibit protein synthesis at 30S subunit The term can also refer more generally to any organic molecule that contains amino sugar substructures. AMIKACIN INJECTION BASIC USE Thus amikacin use to treat a wide variety of bacterial infections urinary tract, bones and joints, lungs, pneumonia, brain, blood. It is also used in hospitalized patients to prevent spread of infections. Different bacterial infections Joint infections, Intra-abdominal infections, Meningitis, Pneumonia, Sepsis (घाव का सड़ना) Urinary tract infections. Multidrug-resistant tuberculosis 1.
