What Made Them So Mad - June 16, 2019

In this sermon from June 16, 2019, Bro. Emil follows up on a question from the previous Sunday: "What made the authorities in Jesus' time so mad that they would call for His crucifixion?" Several reasons are identified: Jesus pointed out their hypocrisy (sometimes humorously), challenged their rules, and threatened their wealth and status. Most importantly, Jesus demonstrated that God does not love them exclusively - and even loves those that they despise. These are not just historical grievances. This problem with the Christ of the Gospels is a conflict that many forms of Christianity continue to re-enact in present times as those who want to cling to power, control, and pride continually rework Jesus into something serving their own image...thus "killing" Him all over again.
