Mega Drive Longplay [430] Monster World IV (Fan Translation)
http://www.longplays.org Played by: Reinc One day, Asha was standing on a cliff near her home village, and suddenly heard a mysterious voice calling for help. She decided to leave the village and to embark on an adventure to discover the identity of this mysterious person. Monster World IV is an action-adventure platformer, developed by Westone and released exclusively in Japan by Sega for the Mega Drive in April 1994. It is the sixth and final game in the Wonder Boy/Monster World series. Monster World IV was later released for the PlayStation 2 as part of the Sega Ages 2500 series under the name Sega Ages 2500 Series Vol. 29: Monster World Complete Collection. It was released on the Wii's Virtual Console service in Japan on January 15, 2008. An English-language version was released in North America and Europe for Virtual Console on May 10, 2012, and on Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network on May 22, 2012. By the time this description is written, it is the only Sega Genesis game to receive an English localization upon rerelease. Gameplay is a mix of action-adventure, platforming and RPG genres, in which the player traverses a 2D landscape fighting a variety of monsters as well as interacting with non-playable characters. Combat was made a little more complex while the inventory system was simplified in comparison with previous games in the series. A new addition is the Pepelogoo companion, many sections of the game revolve around using it. Also, items can now be permanently missed. As a late entry in the Genesis' lineup it really shows the power of the system: brightly-colored visuals, multiple simultaneous layers of parallax, tight controls and quality sound all illustrate the Genesis' true potential. All Life Drops collected, all treasure found, Legendary Arms acquired. I did miss a few text lines and didn't buy the Force armor (couldn't afford it and didn't want to abuse the Lucky 777 bonus). I didn't show the Debug Shop in the alleyway to the right of the palace (gives 9999 Gold on each visit) and the Debug Arms in it (same as Legendary Arms and give access to debug features). Despite what is shown in the longplay, most of the combat in this game is dead simple: you walk up to an enemy and stab them, then walk up to them again and stab again, effectively stun locking them; if an enemy can't be stun locked, you just hit and run, repeatedly. This longplay uses the fan translation patch of the Japanese original, which has a little different text than the English localisation, not counting the different ways to translate same things that were used in both versions. The patch does seem to have at least one mistake (or not), where the sign in Handera volcano is supposed to say that a magical strike happens once in five attacks, but says it's as strong as five attacks instead. - Disclaimer: Most videos by World of Longplays use SaveStates!
