They were immortalizing the storm that would sweep away their empire. Zighoud Youcef. Born in 1921 in Condé-Smendou, orphan, blacksmith, escaped from Annaba prison in 1951 with a key he made himself. One of the 22 of November 1, 1954. Right-hand man of Didouche Mourad. Architect of the August 20, 1955 uprising in northern Constantine that saved the Algerian Revolution. Colonel of Wilaya 2. Killed at 35 in Sidi Mezghiche on September 25, 1956. This video retraces his journey, told in his first person, from the forge hammer to the broken chains of an entire nation. 📌 To understand the story of Zighoud Youcef: The Homemade Escape - April 1951, Annaba prison: he fashions a master key from a scrap of metal and frees his companions. The blacksmith forges his own freedom. August 20, 1955 - Noon sharp, Skikda, Collo, El Harrouch, Guelma: thousands of peasants attack in broad daylight with sticks and a faith that moves mountains. The world understands that Algeria will no longer back down. The Sacrifice at 35 - September 25, 1956, Sidi Mezghiche: surrounded, he refuses to surrender. The enemy exposes his body to kill hope. But you cannot kill an idea. ❓ Who was Zighoud Youcef? A blacksmith from Smendou, a founding member of the November 1st Movement of 1954, an architect of the August 20th, 1955 uprising, a colonel in Wilaya 2, who fell as a martyr at the age of 35 in 1956. ❓ Why is August 20th, 1955, a turning point in the Algerian War? On that day, thousands of civilians attacked in broad daylight in northern Constantine, shattering the myth of colonial pacification and saving the Revolution from being stifled in the Aurès Mountains. ❓ How did Zighoud Youcef escape from prison? In April 1951, he fashioned a makeshift master key from a piece of iron he found in his cell in Annaba, opened his door, and freed his companions before escaping through the roof. 🗣️ And you? What do you think is Zighoud Youcef's most powerful legacy? 🔨 The blacksmith who forged his own freedom? ⚔️ The man who defied an empire in broad daylight?
