An afternoon of anguish and total loss befell dozens of families in the state of Puebla. An intense storm on Sunday, June 28, caused the San Francisco River to overflow, leaving severe damage and historic flooding in the Mayorazgo neighborhood. Water laden with mud and overflowing drainage systems rushed into homes with tremendous force in a matter of minutes. In this special report from the disaster zone, we enter the home of the Nava family. Mrs. Silvia Nava recounts how in just 10 minutes the level of the sewage rose to over a meter high, making it impossible to salvage their belongings. The victims lost virtually everything: living room furniture, mattresses, clothing, stoves, refrigerators, and appliances were rendered completely unusable under the mud. Residents of the Mayorazgo neighborhood say that although they had experienced minor flooding three years ago, the water had never before reached this destructive level. Currently, those affected are carrying out cleanup efforts and assessing the damage while awaiting support from authorities and civil protection agencies.
