The land clearing operation for the Sultan Hotel in the Gelora Bung Karno area, Central Jakarta, turned violent on Thursday morning (June 18, 2026). Protesters opposing the clearing threw stones, mineral water bottles, and even long bamboo poles at officers. One officer was reportedly struck by a rock. Police fired water cannons to disperse the crowd. As the cannons were fired, several Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and police officers entered the area and arrested several protesters. Previously, the clerk of the Central Jakarta District Court, Azhar, read out the order for the clearing of the land. The Central Jakarta District Court granted the execution petition filed by the Minister of State Secretary and the GBK Complex Management Center, based on Decree Number 1 of the Civil Execution Lawsuit of 2026 in conjunction with Decree Number 208 of the Civil Lawsuit of 2025. "Decrees: First, granting the Petitioners' petition. Second, ordering the Clerk of the Central Jakarta District Court, or if he is unable to do so, to appoint a competent bailiff, accompanied by two witnesses, and, if necessary, with the assistance of the Indonesian National Police or other state authorities, to execute the eviction," said Azhar while reading the decree. The court orders the return of the former HGB 26/Gelora and former HGB 27/Gelora land parcels, along with the buildings and all attached items, to the petitioners. "This concludes the decree.
