QANTAS Airbus A321XLR - First Passenger Flight

This was a historic day for Qantas and Australian aviation, and it was a privilege to be part of it. The excitement began at Gate 5 in Sydney, with media covering the event. During boarding, my pass didn’t scan – only to find out I had been upgraded to Business Class on this inaugural flight. Takeoff was smooth and incredibly quiet. The A321XLR is noticeably quieter than any other aircraft I’ve flown. Inside, the cabin had that new airplane smell, with much larger overhead bins offering 60% more space than the Boeing 737. The seats also felt more modern and spacious, with improved headrests & better recline. The aircraft, VH-OGA “Great Ocean Road,” marks the beginning of a new era in Qantas’ fleet renewal, designed for longer range and improved efficiency. But this flight was more than just a hop between Sydney and Melbourne — it included a rare sightseeing loop over Victoria’s Great Ocean Road and the 12 Apostles, making the experience unforgettable. Passengers were surprised with giveaways, including lightweight Qantas x July carry-on luggage. After landing in Melbourne, Qantas hosted a media event and lunch in the Business Class Lounge before we returned to Sydney. This was a rare opportunity and a truly once-in-a-lifetime inaugural flight.
