Celebrating a Music Icon: Quincy Jones' emotional visit to Seattle's Garfield High School in 1983
This clip is from a show on the KOMO News program "PM Northwest." The episode was a special edition filmed at Garfield High School as Quincy Jones returned for a visit. The episode aired on Feb. 2, 1983. During Jones' visit, he was honored by the Seattle government and the governor at the time, John Spellman. Jones was a multi-talented music titan whose vast legacy ranged from producing Michael Jackson's historic "Thriller" album to writing prize-winning film and television scores and collaborating with Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles, and hundreds of other recording artists. He died Sunday night at age 91 at his home in the Bel Air section of Los Angeles, surrounded by his family. Jones had deep roots in the Pacific Northwest. Jones attended Coontz Junior High School in Bremerton after his family moved from Chicago when he was 10 years old. His family moved to Seattle in 1947 and Jones went to Garfield High School, the school where he learned trumpet and became more serious about music. -------------------------------------------------- For more on the lead story: https://komonews.com/news/local/quinc...
