Conferencia Ambiental Online: “Ciudad Sostenible y Renaturalización Urbana”. Con Luis Marcos (UBU)
The University of Burgos Green Office (UBUverde), in collaboration with the Regional Government of Castile and León, is organizing the online environmental conference: “Sustainable City and Urban Rewilding.” Presented by Luis Marcos. YouTube: Ecology and Sustainability. Online Activity. This event will take place on Thursday, May 28th, at 7:00 PM (19:00) via live stream on the UBU YouTube channel “Ecology and Sustainability,” where it will be recorded and can be shared or viewed as many times as desired. Luis Marcos is a professor and researcher at the University of Burgos (UBU), teaching at the Higher Polytechnic School and the Faculty of Economics and Business. He is the director of the University of Burgos Green Office (UBUverde), an environmental advocate, and leads projects on rural development, social innovation, and the circular economy. In this conference, we will see that moving towards a sustainable city involves integrating smart urban planning, electric and pedestrian mobility, energy efficiency, and the circular economy, engaging local governments and, especially, citizens. Key elements include reducing greenhouse gas and air pollutant emissions, sustainably managing water resources, increasing green spaces and biodiversity, and renaturalizing public spaces. Waste management should focus on reducing plastics and packaging, and prioritizing public transportation, pedestrianization, and cycling. Among the key pillars for Urban Sustainability are: Sustainable Mobility and Pedestrianization, promoting the use of bicycles and electric public transportation, pedestrianizing city centers, and limiting car traffic to reduce pollution. Energy Efficiency and Renewables must be prioritized: transforming buildings with solar energy, geothermal and aerothermal systems, as well as implementing smart lighting and energy efficiency measures in public and private buildings. Furthermore, Resource Management and the Circular Economy are essential: implementing waste reduction, reuse, and recycling, along with rainwater harvesting systems and reduced potable water consumption. Urban rewilding relies on nature-based solutions and green infrastructure: increasing parks, plazas, and green spaces (ideally one-third of the city) to improve air quality and biodiversity. To achieve this, collaboration between government, the private sector, and active citizen participation is essential.
