Castelo Novo is a Portuguese parish in the municipality of Fundão. The archaeological remains suggest a human occupation of the territory probably from the calcolithic and testimonies that refer to the Bronze Age, the Iron until the Roman colonization. For the land to be called this way, it is believed that there would have been an Old Castle (at the top of the Gardunha mountain range), and between 1205 and 1208, the New Castle was built. The mill is an old wine mill originated in the 7th and 8th centuries. Built on a rock near the castle, it consists of 2 sinks, one larger where the grape was trampled and another smaller to collect the juice (must). Testimony of the earliest practices of wine culture in the region, having been built during the Roman occupation. The river beach of Castelo Novo is located just outside the village. It is bathed by the waters of Ribeira de Alpreade that are held there by floodgates. Rocks with gray tones surrounded by vegetation, the sound of water flowing through the various water sources coming from the mountains ............... Os vestígios arqueológicos sugerem uma ocupação humana do território provavelmente desde o calcolítico e testemunhos que remetem à Idade do Bronze, do Ferro até à colonização romana. Para o terreno assim ser denominado, pensa-se que teria existido um Castelo Velho (no topo da serra da Gardunha), e entre 1205 e 1208, foi construído o Castelo Novo. O lagar é um antigo lagar de vinho com origem nos séculos VII e VIII. Construída sobre uma rocha próxima ao castelo, é composta por 2 pias, uma maior onde a uva foi pisoteada e outra menor para coletar o suco (mosto). Testemunho das primeiras práticas de cultura do vinho na região, construídas durante a ocupação romana. A praia fluvial de Castelo Novo fica situada mesmo à saída da aldeia. É banhada pelas águas da Ribeira de Alpreade que aí se encontram retidas por comportas. Rochas com tons acinzentados rodeadas de vegetação, som da água a correr nos vários mananciais vindos da serra ............... Autorização de voo Nº AAN 89705/2020.
