Stepped Bevelled Splice Joint (stepped scarf joint)

Woodworking Joints Series - Bevelled Splice Joint An alternative splice joint; but not one I would often favour due to poor glue surfaces (end and partial end grain) unless made very shallow, which is then wasteful. Why include it? Well, it's not too difficult to cut, and the components are less likely to split at the 'step' than they are in the halved lap splice. Cut with a shallow bevel, say 1 in 9, the glue joint can be quite good too. So, there will be times when it will be preferred. Watch me as I take you through the process of making one. Note. The bevel can be cut the opposite way - this increases resistance to tension slightly, whilst lowering resistance to compression. My 'Accurate Preparation - Rectangular Hexahedron' series of videos give detailed instructions on how to prepare a face side and face edge, essential to making a good joint: Face side -    • Accurate Preparation: Rectangular Hexahedr...   Face edge -    • Accurate Preparation: Rectangular Hexahedr...
