Starting with a traditional shave, with a good beard mapping or face mapping, I believe is of fundamental importance. One of the biggest mistakes when I started with traditional shaving was not properly mapping my beard. As I've already explained, I made many mistakes: I didn't soak the Omega 48 shaving brush properly; I used a Fatip Gentile, an excellent safety razor but I believe not really suitable for those starting out with traditional shaving; I used the safety razor incorrectly in terms of angle and pressure; and so on. But perhaps the most serious mistake, as mentioned, was not mapping my beard. But what does beard mapping or face mapping mean? It essentially means knowing exactly how our beard "moves." This is a really important aspect because, especially during the first stroke, we need to approach and remove the beard following its direction, in order to prevent irritation, cuts, or ingrown hairs. This way, the safety razor and razor blade will do their job effectively and without causing irritation. This is why beard mapping or face mapping is one of the most important aspects of wet shaving, especially for those who are new to using a safety razor. See you soon with new shaves!
