When Vishnu agreed to incarnate as a human to vanquish Ravana, Brahma foresaw the need for assistance and implored Shiva to take on an avatar. Consequently, Shiva chose to manifest as Hanuman. Hanuman's mother, Anjana, originally an apsara named Punjikastala, took birth on Earth as a vanara princess due to a sage's curse. She married Kesari, a vanara chief and the son of Brihaspati. Various narratives surround the birth of Hanuman, with a common thread featuring Vayu, the god of wind, playing a significant role. Among these tales, a popular version recounts King Dasharatha's penance to obtain sons. Brahma granted him a pudding, which Dasharatha fed to his queens, leading to the birth of Ram, Bharath, Lakshman, and Shatrughana. Simultaneously, Anjana and Kesari prayed fervently to Vayu for a child. Pleased with their devotion, Vayu granted their wish, and as the legend goes, some pudding carried by the wind fell into Anjana's hands. Consuming it, she gave birth to Lord Hanuman. Consequently, Hanuman is often referred to as Anjani Putra or Anjaneya, signifying the son of Anjana, or Vayu Putra, meaning the son of Vayu.
