Additional information about Aliya Cycon: Talented young Oud player and composer Aliya Cycon was born and raised in the U.S.A, but her music suggests otherwise. At 18, she picked up the lute-like stringed instrument while traveling in the Middle East. Four years later, she became the first female Oud player to graduate from the renowned Berklee College of Music. Now, her unique music reflects her decade-long journey mastering the Oud and her experience as an American woman who loves Arabic culture, Flamenco, New Age and Balkan music. Cycon has performed at the Nobel Business For Peace Awards in Oslo, and toured internationally as a “Cultural Ambassador” for the US State Department giving concerts and workshops across Jordan Tunisia and Kuwait. Notable collaborations include Jordanian music stars Tareq Jundi and Nasser Salameh, Tunisian icon Zied Gharsa, and LA-based pop singer Naïka. Aliya is a proud endorser of Godin Guitars, La Bella Strings, and Avid Technology. Cycon delivers fearless and soaring vocals in English, Arabic, Spanish and Ladino, while showing off her Oud playing through catchy riffs and soulful improvisations. Her debut album "We Will Be Light" (2015) was described by DownBeat Magazine as "an alluring and shimmering dance between world-pop and traditional Arabic music." Her diverse discography also includes the large orchestral-fusion album "Prayer" (2017) and an upbeat Mediterranean fusion EP called "Aliya and The New Andalus" (2019). Cycon's music is for the world citizen; for the traveler; and for the eternal optimist who believes that through music, there truly can be world peace.
