An unnarrated walk from Foster-Powell to Lents in Southeast Portland taken in March 2020. Foster Road is a street that runs diagonal through Southeast Portland until I-205, then runs all the way down to Damascus. It is a popular street for commuting and there are also many businesses you'll find. Some major changes to Foster Road are that they removed the number of lanes going in each direction to one and added bike lanes. Fred Meyers is gone from 82nd and replaced with an Asian Supermarket. New Copper Penny was demolished at Lents and replaced with Apartments. Blockbuster was removed from Foster/Holgate awhile ago. It became an alternative route of the Barlow Trail during the pioneer era, bringing settlers directly into Portland rather than down to Oregon City. Foster then became a well traveled farm-to-market route connecting to Powell Valley Road near the present-day 52nd Avenue and to the Willamette River and Portland. In the 1930’s, wide streets like Foster became the standard transportation model and served all functions - driving, parking, streetcars and pedestrians. Each sidewalk was 17 feet wide, based on Parisian standards. To this day, Foster till has a generous pedestrian corridor west of 82nd Avenue.
