Less than three weeks after Washington and Tehran agreed to a fragile ceasefire, the United States has launched its largest military operation against Iran since the earlier phase of fighting ended. US forces say they struck more than 80 military targets after accusing Iran of attacking commercial ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz. Tehran has denied responsibility, condemned the strikes, and warned of a crushing response. The escalation has also been accompanied by fresh economic pressure, with Washington revoking a sanctions waiver that allowed limited Iranian oil exports.
