Como cuidar do LÍRIO-DA-PAZ para FLORIR

The peace lily is one of the most beloved plants and is easily found at home, in shaded and semi-shaded areas. Despite being so popular, this is a plant that has its secrets and curiosities. Our gardener Carol Costa brings you a video dossier full of tips and tricks so that you never have to fight with your peace lily again. The peace lily (Spathiphyllum wallisii) may be the easiest to find in garden centers and flower shops, but there are other species in this family of tropical plants that are worth knowing about. The giant peace lily (Spathiphyllum ortgiesii "Sensation") comes from the Mexican jungles and, like its Ecuadorian and Colombian cousins, has very intense green leaves and white flowers, but with a size that lives up to its gigantic name. There is also a variegated version, with light spots on the leaves, the variegated peace lily (Spathiphyllum wallisii variegatum), as well as a mini version of the plant. No matter the species, all peace lilies have the benefit of not only being beautiful, but also being able to filter pollutants and increase air humidity – who wouldn't want to live in an urban jungle? Just give this plant, which loves heat, humidity and weak sunlight, the right conditions to have happy, flowering peace lilies. Avoid dry, cold and very shady places. Does your peace lily produce green flowers? It's not a different species, it's the lack of sunlight that causes the plant to flower little and without the characteristic white bract, the modified leaf that surrounds that central spike (this is the plant's true flower). Take note of the tips for growing your peace lily without declaring war on the plant: use protective mulch, fertilize regularly (preferably with a complete fertilizer, such as Bokashi), and don't forget to water and give it a little sunlight to help it bloom. The most common problems are too much water and not enough sunlight, which can be seen in the rotting of the stems and yellowing of the leaves; dry air, with the tips of the leaves drying out; lack of nutrients, with leaves that are very light in color or unevenly yellowing; dull leaves, which you can easily fix by wiping the plant with a cloth dampened with just water. Peace be with you! :-D
