By your request, in this video I'm going to teach you the step-by-step of a basic belly dance movement called the Mayan Eight, also known as the Downward Eight or Infinity Figure. The Mayan Eight is a sinuous movement that belongs to the base of belly dance and has numerous forms of execution and variations. One thing that really helps in understanding the technique is visualizing the movement pattern, and in the case of the Mayan 8, it's an infinity symbol on the vertical plane. Exercise 1 – Move your hips and heels up and down. Exercise 2 – Move your hips to the sides. Exercise 3 – Imagine a square and think of 4 points, then move your hips to those points. Exercise 4 – Alternate sides. Exercise 5 – Connect the points, rounding the lines. Do you already know this variation? Then try doing the same movement with both feet fixed on the ground.
