And we encounter a country in war mode, where the militarization of society, especially of the youth, has been going on for years. Terms such as serving the fatherland, defending the homeland, and patriotism are widespread. They are heavily propagated by state institutions such as the media and schools, but are also firmly anchored in society. Military historians speak of a "heroic society." We're present at a military school parade, at the Victory Museum, where the fight against Hitler's Germany is equated with the war of aggression in Ukraine, and at a training camp that aims to prepare volunteers for World War III. Images rarely seen from Russia these days. Then we ask in Switzerland: Do we have to fear this Russia? Prospective recruits show a surprising amount of trust in neutrality. A neutrality that, especially in connection with Russia, is once again becoming a political bone of contention and is interpreted very differently. Officers, for their part, warn: the Swiss are unaware of the new dangers.
