In 'Animal Medicine', Erika Buenaflor explores the animal mythologies, spirit journeying techniques, and shapeshifting practices of ancient shamanic traditions and modern-day curanderismo. She explores why certain animals are associated with and provide access to the non-ordinary realms. She details how to enter into a trance journey to go into these nonordinary realms, be guided by or shapeshift into an animal associated with that realm, and access the sacred gifts and spiritual medicine they offer. Erika Buenaflor, M.A., J.D., has over 20 years of practicing as a curandera, mentoring with curanderx and shamans in the Maya Yucatecan jungle, Peru, and Los Angeles, and studying Mesoamerican Curanderismo in academia at UCLA and UCR. She has a master’s degree in religious studies with a focus on Mesoamerican shamanism and curanderismo. Erika comes from a grandmother lineage of women healers, her great-great grandmother was a well-known and sought out curandera in Chihuahua, Mexico.
