Big Business, China, and The United States

The growing importance of big business subverts conventional approaches to geopolitics. Business is now the centerpiece of a global rivalry between China and the United States—in everything from 5G to AI to automobiles. Technology companies shape military postures and intelligence. Other countries increasingly assess their relations with China and the United States based on business and economics, at the expense of political ideology. This talk will analyze the limits of conventional approaches to geopolitics (e.g. Sun Tzu, Clausewitz, Kissinger) and introduce new approaches which make technology and business central institutions of the international system.
