In May 1942, Italy strengthened its ground forces in the USSR while aviation units were mostly just refreshed with new Fighter and Recon groups replacing ones deployed in 1941. But some new types were deployed too, primarily the more advanced Macchi C.202 Folgore. But the increasing quality of Soviet Air Force will present new challenges to the Italian pilots.
