Let’s talk about the famous Italian brand Prada which has become a household name. I am sharing how a bag made from the simple material nylon transformed a leather business into a global brand. This bag – the so-called Vela Bag, was launched in the 1980s and until today, it has been one of the signature designs and materials of the Prada brand. Designed by Miuccia Prada, it was something the fashion world had not seen before – luxury was associated with leather goods, not with an “inferior” performance material such as nylon. Until today, the so-called “Pocono Nylon” is an important part of the Prada brand DNA and has been used for many designs beyond accessories. The Re-Nylon, Re-Edition 2000 and 2005 handbag has been named “Handbag of the Year” by the online shopping platform Lyst.
