50th Golden Jubilee shunned by the opposition!

Politics should never outweigh respect. National celebrations belong to every Seychellois, regardless of political affiliation. While political disagreements are a normal part of any democracy, there are moments that should rise above party politics. I was disappointed to learn that opposition leaders chose not to attend Seychelles’ 50th Independence celebrations during the visit of the Prime Minister of India. In my opinion, when a foreign leader travels thousands of kilometres to honour our nation on such a historic occasion, the least we can do is extend the courtesy and respect that reflects the dignity of Seychelles. This is not about supporting one political party over another. It is about representing our country with maturity, unity and respect. Our international guests should leave with the impression that, despite our political differences, we can stand together when it comes to our nation’s history, our sovereignty and our future. Political debates will continue tomorrow. Independence Day comes once a year, and our 50th anniversary is a milestone that should have united us all. What are your thoughts?
