Jarai Traditional Song by Hip Ksor | Montagnard Music from Vietnam

Hip Ksor is a Jarai/Montagnard musician, songwriter, and community leader from the Central Highlands of Vietnam. Over the years, he has written many secular and Christian songs for the Jarai people, helping preserve Jarai language, culture, and oral traditions through music. In this video, Hip Ksor performs a traditional Jarai song he wrote in 1990. He sang, played guitar, and recorded the song in 1994 in Buôn Ai-Nu Village, Krông Pa District, Gia Lai Province, Vietnam. The song was written as a farewell to his close friend Ama Duan (Father of Duan), who was preparing to leave Vietnam for America. Through the lyrics, Hip Ksor expresses sadness and reminds his friend not to forget his homeland, including the villages, the Apa and Ayun Rivers, the mountains, and the Jarai people. The name of the song in Jarai is “Ôh Adơi Rơwĭ Kâo Ah” (Oh My Humble Young Brother). According to Hip Ksor, the Jarai word “rơwĭ” refers to traditional medicine used to make someone calmer, humbler, and gentler. Thank you for watching!
