How Britain Lost Its Coal Industry
This country was built on coal. It powered the factories, drove the ships, and heated every home in the land. For two hundred years, more than a million men went down into the dark to dig it out — and whole towns were built around the pit at the end of the street. Today, there is not a single deep coal mine left working anywhere in Britain. Not one. This is the story of how it all ended: the peak of a million miners, the tight-knit pit villages, the strikes of the 1970s and 80s, and the long, painful decline that left proud communities with nothing. Whatever the balance sheets said, what Britain lost was far more than coal — it was a whole way of life. If you come from a mining family, you'll remember this very well. Did you go down the pit — or did your father or grandfather? Which colliery was yours, and what happened to your village when it closed? Tell me in the comments. #BritishCoal #CoalMining #BritishNostalgia #MiningHistory #PitVillage ————————————— Footage & audio credits / Attributions: "1903 Burnley Ironworks company steam engine in use" by Philafrenzy — CC BY — https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Fi...
