The World's Oldest S-Bahn...is in Glasgow? | Glasgow Regional Rail Explained (by an American)

We all know and love the tiny trains running in circles on the Glasgow Subway. However, it's Glasgow’s Regional Rail network that does the real heavy lifting! Not only does it have underground stations that opened before the Subway, but it was the first system IN THE WORLD to feature through-running trains in a city center tunnel. So, yeah, Glasgow technically invented the S-Bahn. And the network features so much more: widespread electrification over many decades, spectacular scenery, an underground station where you take an escalator DOWN to reach the platform from street level, connections to sea-going ferries, and an air link (to the wrong airport). Come for the ride as I explain the lines, stations, trains, stories, and quirks of Glasgow’s Regional Rail. Stay tuned for Part 2, where I talk about how it could be even better!
