Plettenberg is a town with 24,800 inhabitants in the west of the Sauerland and has a train station on the Ruhr-Sieg line. The train station, located in the Eiringhausen district, was opened in 1861 with the Ruhr-Sieg line. In 1915, a branch line to Herscheid was added, but this lost passenger traffic in 1965 and was closed and dismantled in sections from 1969 to 1996. At the west end of the station, the Old Lenne Bridge of this branch line still stands. The Plettenberg station still has extensive track systems today. These serve primarily to serve the sidings of local industrial companies. To the east of the station, the Märkische Eisenbahn operates a transshipment center for metal products. There are three platform tracks available for passenger traffic in Plettenberg. A side platform on track 1 and an island platform for tracks 2 & 3. The reception building is now used by a restaurant and a hairdressing salon. There is no longer a direct connection between the two platforms.
