Yin Yoga | Pericardium/Triple Burner Meridian Practice (90 mins)
This 90 minute yin yoga practice is focussed on the Pericardium and Triple Burner (San Jiao) Meridians. In our Functional Energetics sequence we started to explore energetic movement through the body’s subtle energy channels and discussed how this movement and harmonisation of energy is important for overall health. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Chi (or Qi) moves through 12 main meridians in the body. In more recent research, the focus has been on myofascial meridians that loosely follow many of the TCM meridians. Myofascial meridian pathways allow chemical and electrical energy to move through the body, these bands are part of the single connective tissue network that is present in every part of our body. It is these myofascial meridians that we work with in a yoga practice and that we will work with in this sequence. Often these meridians are worked with in their Yin/Yang pairs. In TCM the Pericardium and Triple Burner meridians relate to the function of circulation and protection of the heart as well as intake, transformation and elimination. Disharmony in the Pericardium and Triple Burner meridians can manifest as -pain in the heart area, poor circulation, some stomach problems, and mental problems deafness, ringing in the ears, bloating, and urinary difficulties. The sequence we will practice seeks to restore some balance to the Pericardium and Triple Burner meridians, helping to ensure a healthy flow of Chi throughout the body.
