Hazrat Abu Bakr (RA), whose real name was Abdullah ibn Abi Quhafa, was the closest companion of Prophet Muhammad and the first Caliph of Islam. He was born in 573 CE in Mecca into a respected family of the Quraysh tribe. Even before accepting Islam, he was widely known for his honesty, wisdom, and noble character. Because of his truthful nature, he later received the title As-Siddiq, meaning “the most truthful.” When Prophet Muhammad began preaching Islam, Hazrat Abu Bakr (RA) was among the very first adult men to accept the message without hesitation. His acceptance of Islam played a crucial role in spreading the faith, as many influential people accepted Islam through him. He dedicated his wealth and life to supporting Islam and freeing oppressed slaves, including Bilal ibn Rabah. Hazrat Abu Bakr (RA) shared a deep and unique bond with the Prophet (PBUH). He stood by him in every difficulty, including the migration (Hijrah) from Mecca to Medina. During this journey, both of them stayed in the Cave of Thawr, where Hazrat Abu Bakr showed immense courage and trust in Allah. His loyalty and companionship earned him a special place in Islamic history. He was also honored by becoming the father-in-law of the Prophet (PBUH) through his daughter, Aisha bint Abu Bakr. After the death of Prophet Muhammad in 632 CE, the Muslim community faced a critical moment of uncertainty. Hazrat Abu Bakr (RA) was chosen as the first Caliph due to his wisdom, leadership, and closeness to the Prophet. His caliphate marked a turning point in Islamic history. One of his greatest achievements was dealing with the Ridda Wars (Wars of Apostasy), where he successfully suppressed rebellions and restored unity among the Muslims. His firm stance ensured that the newly established Islamic state did not collapse. Another major contribution of Hazrat Abu Bakr (RA) was the preservation of the Holy Quran. After many memorizers of the Quran were martyred in battles, he ordered the compilation of the Quran into a single written form. This important task was carried out under the supervision of Zayd ibn Thabit, ensuring that the Quran would be محفوظ for future generations. Hazrat Abu Bakr (RA) was also known for his simplicity, humility, and deep faith. Despite being the ruler of a growing empire, he lived a very simple life and remained devoted to justice and service. He continued the mission of spreading Islam and sent expeditions towards the Persian and Byzantine empires. Hazrat Abu Bakr (RA) passed away in 634 CE in Medina.
