In today's homily, we reflect on the Gospel of Matthew 10:1-7, in which Jesus calls the twelve apostles and entrusts them with the mission of announcing that the Kingdom of Heaven is near. Starting from the refrain of Psalm 104 — “Seek the face of the Lord continually” — Father Wagner Calegário leads us to a profound reflection on fidelity to God, especially in moments when everything seems to be going well. The homily recalls the prophecy of Hosea, when the people of Israel, prospering and producing fruit, began to erect altars to their idols. This warning also touches our lives: often we seek God in difficulties, in illnesses, in financial or family crises, but we run the risk of turning away when we are safe, healthy, and at peace. The Gospel also presents Matthew, who does not hide his past by identifying himself as “the tax collector.” He acknowledges who he was, but also testifies to what Jesus accomplished in his life. The one whose life was once marked by a different direction now receives a new mission: to follow Christ and proclaim the Kingdom. This Word invites us to ask: what is the level of our faithfulness when everything is going well? Do we constantly seek the face of the Lord, or only when we need an answer, a cure, or a solution? Today's homily helps us understand that remaining with God is not only about turning to Him in difficult times, but also about choosing Him in stability, joy, routine, and prosperity.
