Should You Rip Up the Carpet on Your Stairs? Stained Wood Stair Project DIY for Cheap!

With much time lapse footage, this video captures the extended weekend when I stained and polyurethane coated my stairway while my family was away. Some previous water damage downstairs caused us to rip up all carpet and replace it with tile. This created a problem with the carpet on the stairway. We could not keep the carpet because it didn't match anything else and we didn't want to lay tile on it because we weren't sure if we could do it cost -effectively. So, we ripped off the carpet and we were happy to find a workable pine underneath with a grain that lent itself to staining. To prep the stairs, we just needed to remove the tack strip and all of the staples. Any nails that were sticking up were nailed in further with a hammer and a nail punch. The video catches up at this point and carries through the rest of the process. The cash outlay on this was very reasonable and the work was enjoyable and rewarding. I highly recommend this solution if you can keep people off of the staircase for a few days. If you liked this video, please like it with a thumbs up.
