Garden Railroad Scenery From Cement Mortar and Extruded Styrene Foam Insulation - Cliff Faces

We are back to making scenery from extruded styrene foam insolation cement mortar mix on the garden railroad. Extruded styrene is most often used on indoor model railroads and it works great. We are building the basic form from extruded styrene foam insolation both inside and out. Outside has proven to be a learning experience, or should we say a challenge? But we think this will work long term even though we need to rework and replace sections as problems come up. SO.. is it hobby railroading or experimentation? Well, it's both. So far we have built stonework around the tunnel portal directly on the cinderblock wall and retaining walls from pressure-treated plywood with wire reinforcement, both seem to be working fine. But putting cement mix over the extruded styrene is more of a problem.
