Por Qué Este Pájaro Despierta a las Mangostas Todas las Mañanas

Every morning on the African savanna, something strange happens before sunrise. A bird flies toward an underground burrow. It lands at the entrance. And begins to call. Not to eat. Not to attack. To wake those sleeping inside. This is the ground hornbill. And the dwarf mongooses that live in colonies inside abandoned termite mounds depend on its morning call to survive. At dawn, when the mongooses are most vulnerable, is when the most predators prowl near their burrows. The hornbill knows this. And that's why it arrives first. But this isn't an act of selfless kindness. When the mongooses come out to forage, they stir up hidden insects that the hornbill takes advantage of to hunt. And there's something else: the hornbill has three different calls. One to wake them up. One for alarm. One that indicates that everything is safe. The mongooses can distinguish them perfectly. Scientists have documented that colonies with an associated hornbill have significantly higher survival rates. 👇 LEAVE ME A COMMENT BELOW: Did you know this alliance existed?
