Mayfly Nymph

The Mayfly Nymph is an imitation of the larval stage of the Mayfly Ephemera Danica and is the first stage of the lifecycle that it is possible to imitate. The actual insect is much darker but the silhouette of the fly is correct with its three pronged tail, prominent thorax, wing case, a dark ribbed abdomen and prominent legs. The colour scheme of the fly was how it was traditionally tied. The fly can be modified is a variety of ways, most notably as follows: 1. Use dubbing for the body 2. Use brown wire, brown quill or thread coloured brown for the rib 3. Use a fluorescent dubbing, such as hot orange or chartreuse for the thorax 4. Use a wound hackle for the legs 5. Add weight in the form of a bead or lead. A fluorescent bead could work well too. 6. Adjust the hook size to match your hatch 7. Adjust the colour to Olive or Tan etc to match your local variety I hope you enjoyed watching the Mayfly Lifecycle Series. Thanks for watching and please like, share and subscribe!
