Town Green Station - 12th April 2024

Today is Lady's Day at the Grand National at Aintree Racecourse. Merseyrail provided double sets (six cars) for the anticipated crowds going to and from Aintree on the Ormskirk Line. I spent a couple of hours at Town Green Station filming the stoppers and the semi-fasts passing through. As it says in the video, the sets comprised of 507 001+507 014, 507 010+507 015, 507 021+507 023, 507 003+507 033 and 507 017+507 028. These units appear in separate photos at the beginning of the video. Today, I'm sure, will be the penultimate day of such parings on the Ormskirk Line. Gradually over the coming months, the class 507s will be withdrawn for scrapping. They have served (along with the now scrapped 508s) Merseyrail well since their introduction. The end of an era approches on Merseyrail, so catch the 507s while you can!
