It was also reported that some of the Peruvian citizens expelled had criminal records or were under investigation by authorities in their country. Meanwhile, the Chilean government highlighted a decrease in clandestine entries at the northern border and progress in the so-called Border Shield plan, which includes a trench, increased military presence, and new technologies to prevent irregular entry into the country.
