Igor Koshkendey & The Tuvan Ensemble - Dingildai Igor Koshkendey is one of the greatest masters of khöömei, the traditional Tuvan throat singing from the Republic of Tuva. He is an Honored Artist of Tuva and a People’s Khöömeizhi of Tuva, a distinction reserved for the guardians of this ancestral tradition. A world-renowned virtuoso, Igor masters six styles of throat singing, including the rare Oidupaa style, which he is one of the very few singers able to perform. Winner of numerous international awards, including the Grand Prix of the International Throat Singing Competition in 1998, the Grand Prix at Llangollen (Wales) in 2000, the Russian Government “Soul of Russia” Award, and a Latin Grammy Award, he has become a true ambassador of Tuvan musical culture. Director of the K.B. Ondar State Center for the Development of Tuvan Traditional Culture and Crafts, Igor Koshkendey works to preserve and pass on this unique heritage. As part of his commitment to sharing and transmitting this tradition, he selected three promising young talents from Tuva to accompany him on this tour, during which he gave the closing concert of the Echoes Of The Steppe Festival, the first European throat singing competition.
