四国遍路の世界遺産登録目指す動き…さぬき市の長尾寺境内など４カ所が国の史跡に【香川】 (26/06/19 18:00)

The grounds of Nagao-ji Temple in Sanuki City, the 87th temple of the Shikoku Pilgrimage, and other locations have been designated as National Historic Sites. The four locations to be added to the designation as National Historic Sites are the grounds of Nagao-ji Temple in Sanuki City, the 87th temple of the Shikoku Pilgrimage, and the grounds of Gosho-ji Temple in Utazu Town, Kagawa Prefecture, the 78th temple. These will be added to the already designated "Sanuki Pilgrimage Route." Nagao-ji Temple was selected for its well-preserved grounds, including the main hall and Daishi Hall, which retain the atmosphere of the Edo period. The four prefectures of Shikoku, including Kagawa Prefecture, are working towards the designation of temples and pilgrimage routes as historical sites, aiming for the Shikoku Pilgrimage to be registered as a World Cultural Heritage site. With these additions, the "Sanuki Pilgrimage Route" will comprise 14 locations. The additional designations will be submitted to the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology on the afternoon of June 19th, with a formal decision expected around September 2026.
