First Apparition of Our Lady of Fatima May 13, 1917. Lucia, Francisco, and Jacinta were playing in a place called Cova da Iria. Suddenly, they saw two flashes like lightning, and then they saw, above the top of a small holm oak tree, a Lady of incomparable beauty. She was a Lady dressed in white, brighter than the sun, radiating light clearer and more intense than a crystal glass full of crystal-clear water, pierced by the rays of the most ardent sun. Her face, indescribably beautiful, was neither joyful nor sad, but serious, with an air of gentle reproach. Her hands were joined, as if in prayer, resting on her chest, and turned upwards. A Rosary hung from her right hand. Her garments seemed to be made only of light. The tunic and mantle were white with golden borders, covering the Virgin Mary's head and reaching down to her feet. Lucia never managed to perfectly describe the features of that radiant face. With a maternal and gentle voice, Our Lady reassured the three children, saying: Our Lady: "Do not be afraid. I will not hurt you." And Lucia asked: Lucia: "Where are you from?" Our Lady: "I am from Heaven!" Lucia: "And what do you want of me?" Our Lady: "I have come to ask you to come here for six consecutive months, always on the 13th, at this same hour. Then I will tell you who I am and what I want." "Then I will return here a seventh time." Lucia: "And will I go to Heaven too?" Our Lady: "Yes, you will." Lucia: "And Jacinta?" Our Lady: "She will too." Lucia: "And Francisco?" Our Lady: "He will too." "But you must pray many rosaries." Our Lady: "Do you wish to offer yourselves to God to endure all the sufferings He wishes to send you, in reparation for the sins by which He is offended, and in supplication for the conversion of sinners?" Lucia: "Yes, we do." Our Lady: "You will have much to suffer, but the grace of God will be your comfort." Upon pronouncing these last words, Our Lady opened her hands, and from them came forth an intense light. The shepherd children felt an impulse that made them fall to their knees, and they silently prayed the prayer that the Angel had taught them: The three children: "O Most Holy Trinity, I adore you." "My God, my God, I love you in the Blessed Sacrament." After a few moments, Our Lady added: Our Lady: "Pray the Rosary every day, to obtain peace for the world, and the end of the war." Then, surrounded by light, she began to rise serenely, until she disappeared. Source: Devotees of Our Lady of Fatima and http://www.viverembrasilia.com.br
