Cámara despacha la Megarreforma de Kast a Comisión Mixta: Oposición recurrirá al TC
On Tuesday, the Chamber of Deputies passed the landmark mega-reform promoted by President José Antonio Kast's administration after it completed its third constitutional review. However, the process is far from over. Despite the approval of the vast majority of articles, the lack of a quorum on the amendment seeking to compensate the Municipal Common Fund for the exemption from property taxes forced the bill to be sent to a joint committee, opening a complex, last-minute negotiation with the People's Party (PDG) caucus. Adding to this tense legislative scenario is the imminent offensive from the opposition, which is already preparing an appeal to the Constitutional Court to challenge tax and environmental aspects, while the Presidential Palace (La Moneda) has not ruled out using presidential vetoes to protect the key measures of its National Reconstruction Plan. This was one of the topics of conversation at the #NewVoices Panel on Wednesday, July 22, composed of Bárbara Navarrete, researcher at the Observatory of Economic Policies (OPES), and Loreto Kemp, director of the Action & Change Foundation and UDI member.
