Tinker v Des Moines - Oyez, Oyez, Oh Yay!

In 1969, the Supreme Court ruled that “students and teachers do not shed their rights at the school house gate.” and laid the foundation for understanding rights of expression in school. Students will learn the story of the Tinker family and their symbolic protest against the Vietnam War. Oyez, Oyez, Oh Yay! focuses on the landmark case decisions that appear in the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). Students and teachers can search through the case summaries, videos, viewing guides, and review games for ideas on how to teach these cases.
