Seminario Mischa Cotlar - IAM, CONICET: Título: "Extrapolation methods in the Calculus of Variations" Expositor: Mario Milman (IAM-CONICET) Fecha: 22 de mayo de 2026 Resumen: There is a fruitful connection between limiting. formulae for Sobolev/Besov spaces and extrapolation. It has led to radical new approach to the celebrated BBM formulae as well as its extensions to other settings. In this talk I will present new joint work with Oscar Dominguez (Cunef) that builds on this foundation to develop a new connection of extrapolation to the Calculus of Variations. More specifically we develop a new approach to the Gamma convergence inspired on interpolation/extrapolation ideas going back to Gagliardo and more recently to Cwikel. There are multiple applications ranging from Gamma versions of the limiting formulae (new and old) to new applications to image processing. Our results hinge upon an extension of the classical interpolation functionals and their extrapolations. The talk will concentrate on the ideas and avoid as much as possible technicalities aiming to an audience interested in the {Calculus of Variations, Image Processing, Interpolation theory} or simply interested to see how abstract ideas can have "practical" applications.
